Microsoft Word ASD Document Viewer

Microsoft Word Autosave Document (ASD) files have the Compound File Binary File Format [MS-CFB] file-structure.

Although EnCase can mount these files, it cannot currently view them.

It is possible to open these files in Microsoft Word, but only if they're located in certain folders, e.g., '%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Word'.

This plugin provides a right-click context-menu allowing the user to extract a copy of the highlighted *.ASD file into the aforementioned folder and view it in Word. Each file will be prefixed with 'EnCase Item' followed by the item-GUID.

In most cases it will be necessary to minimise EnCase to see the newly opened document.

The script also provides an option to view the aforementioned folder. This will allow the user to view/delete the extracted files.

This plugin will not work unless Word has been installed prior to EnCase being launched.
