In which versions of EnCase eDiscovery are the EnCEP® tests available in?

The EnCEP program is available in v3 and v4.  Until 30 June 2011, candidates will have a choice of which version of the Phase I and Phase II examinations to take.  On 1 July 2011, the EnCEP v3 examinations will be retired.

 

 

How much does the EnCEP program cost?

The total cost for the EnCEP program is $125.00(USD) in the USA and $150.00(USD) internationally. The test cost is USD$125.00, which includes:
• Latest edition of the 300+ page EnCase Certified eDiscovery Practitioner manual
• Phase I and Phase II tests delivered via EnCase OnDemand
• EnCEP certificate and wallet card upon successful completion of the program
 

 

For International candidates, the cost is USD$150.00 to cover the extra cost of shipping the manual and EnCEP certificate & wallet card. The EnCEP certification is inexpensive compared to other professional certifications. The cost was intentionally kept low, as Guidance Software understands many users will not be reimbursed for the fee.

 
What materials can I use to study for the EnCEP computer-based test?

Guidance Software training manuals on EnCase eDiscovery (obtained only by attending GSI training) are good study materials for the EnCEP test.  Qualified candidates will be sent the latest edition of the 300+ page EnCase Certified eDiscovery Practitioner manual.


Training manuals which will help you prepare for the EnCEP test are any of the following:
• EnCase® eDiscovery
• EnCase Training OnDemand eDiscovery• EnCase eDiscovery product implementation (2009 or earlier)

We also recommend candidates familiarize themselves with information contained in the following publications:
• EnCase® Legal Journal by Guidance Software
• EnCase® eDiscovery User's Manual by Guidance Software

 
What experience qualifies for the EnCEP test?
To apply for the EnCEP test, a candidate must have at least three months experience in eDiscovery matters. This may include but is not limited to eDiscovery planning, project management, ESI collection, processing, load files creation, review, production, and sworn testimony.
 
What topic areas does the EnCEP® Phase I computer-based test cover?
The EnCEP computer-based test covers the following topics from the EnCase eDiscovery training courses:

What topic areas does the EnCEP® Phase II Scenarios test cover?

There are 40 scenario questions and candidates have three hours and thirty minutes to complete the examination.

• Criteria & Conditions Creation and Validation
• EnCase eDiscovery Database
• Case Screening Report

• Matching Files

• Keyword Creation and Validation

How do I renew my EnCEP?

What if I did not finish my Phase II test before the due date? 
If anyone does not complete the Phase II practical with in the time allotted them, they will be required to wait one month from the date that the test would have been due, and then start the EnCEP process over at Phase I.  Requests for an extension must be made in writing, and will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
 
What if I fail the test?

- Anyone who does not obtain a grade of 80% to pass the Phase I test can retake the test within 30 days.  If you are not successful at the 2nd attempt, you must coordinate with the EnCase Certification Coordinator for retesting after a 30 day waiting period.  After three unsuccessful attempts, a candidate would need to re-apply for the EnCEP program.
